The next talk is titled: Digital cameras give us an incredible amount of feedback while we’re shooting. The problem is that many photographers either ignore these tools completely or get confused about what they’re actually telling us.
In this presentation, I’ll walk through three of the most useful tools built into modern cameras: chimping (reviewing your photo on the camera’s screen), highlight warnings (the “blinkies”), and histograms. Once you understand how they work, they become simple and powerful guides that can help you make better exposure decisions in the field.
We’ll look at what chimping really means and how to use image review without letting it interrupt your flow as a photographer. I’ll explain what the blinking highlight warning is actually showing you, why it matters, and when it’s safe to ignore it. And we’ll spend time demystifying the histogram so it becomes a helpful visual tool rather than a confusing graph.
Throughout the presentation I’ll keep it simple and fun while I share real examples from my own photographs and show how these tools help me evaluate exposure and protect important details in the scene.
This program is designed for photographers of all experience levels. If you’ve ever wondered whether your exposure is really right, or what your camera is trying to tell you on the back screen, this session will help you make sense of it.

We are a non-profit club that concentrates on digital photographic techniques. Our goal is to provide an
environment where amateurs and professionals can learn from each other to further develop their skills
as photographers.
We welcome guests to all of our meetings, which begin at 8:00 pm and last approximately two hours. If you are
interested, or think you might be and want to learn more, by all means, please join us. Meetings are normally held
twice each month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. Often, a guest speaker is invited to present information about his
or her specialty at the first meeting. Member competitions are held during the second meeting.
